Scrapbook Borders
May 14th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedWhat is a scrapbook? Well it is much more than a notebook that is used to record day to day happenings. Scrapbooks also store day to day happenings, however one element of a scrapbook that notebooks don’t have is the creativity of the producer. Scrapbooks contain photos, text, cuttings from various sources such as magazine or newspapers and decorations that display the individual’s creativity.
Borders can be used in many ways; for example, they can be used around the entire page or around photos or stickers pasted in the Scrapbook. Proper borders help you to improve the looks of your scrapbooks and helps to ad glitter to your scrapbook.
For simple borders, stickers can be pasted as borders. But the stickers should not hide your photos. The stickers should be narrow and should cover most of the paper from the border. A ruler will help to overcome this problem. A ruler should be used for drawing two straight lines around the entire page. Scrapbook pens with different widths and colors should be used to create a square shaped border. One line should be made thin while the other should be made a little wider. After outlining the borders, scatter the stickers on top of the border. Rubber stamps can also be used as an alternative to stickers. Stamps can be used with different colors tol make the border more creative.
Rubber stamps also help to make some great creative borders. A medium size stamp is preferred for the borders. A vertical line should be created down the page. This will look much better than the border around the entire page. After the border is done, use stamps of several of colors. These stamps should be colored by multi-color pencils; this will help your scrapbook look more attractive. After that a square-line border should be created around the photos with pencils of various colors.
Another alternative for making borders is to use stencils. For making your scrapbook more attractive, wavy-lined stencils could be used along with pens. Die cuts can be created with the help of shaped stencils and Exacto knives. In order to create names on the top of those die cuts, lettered stencils should be used. However the border should be used only on one side or across top and bottom.
To add more glitter to your borders, cut vellum (parchment made from calfskin, kidskin or lambskin) in squares and string its pieces together with a ribbon pasted on the back. Stamp on the top of the vellum; this will make the border more attractive. For a more unique look, tear the vellum from one side and tear all the other vellums on the same sides of other pages. This will add a spark of glamour to your scrapbook and will make it more attractive
Been there, done that, scrapped a page about it.

Borders for Scrapbooks
March 28th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedHere are a few ideas for borders for scrapbooks.
To improve the look and “glitter” of your scrapbook, you need look no further than the lowly border. Most every page has one. No longer attached to the outside of a page, it now can be put around any item in the scrapbook. Around photos, around clippings, around the whole page, virtually anywhere. They really are quite versatile. Proper borders go a long way towards the finished look of the project.
Simple borders can be made with stickers. As long as the stickers don’t conceal any of the photos, there shouldn’t be a problem. The stickers themselves should be narrow and should fill the area from the border to close to the edge of the page. To start a border, get a ruler. You need a ruler to make sure that your border isn’t too crooked or not at the right angle. For a square or rectangular simple border, draw two lines around the entire page. One for the inside edge of the presentation and the other about the width of the stickers your are using inside the first one. This creates an area where you can load up with stickers or maybe as alternative, rubber stamps. The stamp can be applied with different colors to make the border more creative.
One method of using rubber stamps to make creative borders is to try a border of multicolored stamps along only one side of the page. They can even be enhanced once they are placed within the border. Using multi-color pencils will make your scrapbook border look more attractive. Once you have your border laid down, then drawing square-line border should be created around the photos or clippings with pencils of various colors.
Effective borders can also be created with stencils. Pens and wavy-lined stencils can increase the attractiveness of your scrapbook. Die cuts of stencils can be made easily with the help of exacto knives. They make wonderful borders especially along one side to across the page at the top and bottom.
Of course you could always go digital for your scrapbook borders. That opens a whole new slew of possibilities. It also saves a goodly amount of time since everything can be copied and placed (pasted) so easily. The great advantage of digital borders is the ease that you can get premade templates from literally hundreds of sites. Or you could use lots of programs these days to create your own. Oh go ahead be a scrapbooking rogue. You know you want to. The point is that there are lots of forms of borders for scrapbooks.
